1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Emily Yang on winning the Bulls-Eye State Archery
1.3Tournament.
1.4WHEREAS, Emily Yang became interested in archery in seventh grade, when she joined a
1.5local archery club and started tagging along with her dad, Tony, and her uncles on hunting trips;
1.6and
1.7WHEREAS, within a year, Emily was better than her family members, and continued to
1.8practice up to two hours a day on the range; and
1.9WHEREAS, Emily, now 17 and a junior at St. Paul's Open World Learning Community,
1.10was one of nearly 500 students, which includes boys and girls competing together, to participate
1.11in the Bulls-Eye State Archery Tournament, held in Bemidji on March 24, 2018; and
1.12WHEREAS, her impressive performance, in which she hit the bull's-eye with 23 of her 30
1.13arrows, made her one of the few girls, and the first Hmong-American, to win the title; and
1.14WHEREAS, at only 5 feet 1, she is an inspiration to other Hmong girls, and proves that you
1.15don't have to be the biggest, fastest, or strongest to be a champion in athletics; and
1.16WHEREAS, by winning the state title, she got to compete in the national tournament in
1.17Louisville, Kentucky, and hopes to qualify for the Junior Olympics and other international
1.18competitions; and
1.19WHEREAS, when she is not on the range Emily mentors younger students and is writing a
1.20fantasy novel, and aspires to attend Minnesota State Mankato; and
1.21NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.22congratulates Emily Yang for her sportsmanship and skill in winning the Bulls-Eye State Archery
1.23Tournament, and wishes her well in her future academic and athletic endeavors.
1.24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.25enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.26Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Emily Yang.
