1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing World Down Syndrome Day on Saturday, March 21, 2020.
1.3WHEREAS, March 21 was established as World Down Syndrome Day by Down Syndrome
1.4International with the goal of raising awareness and mobilizing support and recognition of the
1.5dignity, rights, and well-being of people with Down syndrome across the world; and
1.6WHEREAS, Minnesotans who have Down syndrome are active citizens who contribute
1.7much to the overall quality of life in this community; and
1.8WHEREAS, it is the desire of our community to create a place where all people can explore
1.9and develop their various abilities, enjoy productive work, and contribute by meaningful
1.10participation; and
1.11WHEREAS, Minnesota-based organizations like the Down Syndrome Association of
1.12Minnesota, Gigi's Playhouse, and Jack's Basket organize activities and events to raise public
1.13awareness and advocate for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of Minnesotans with Down
1.14syndrome; and
1.15NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.16commends the Down Syndrome Association of Minnesota, Gigi's Playhouse, and Jack's Basket for
1.17all they do to raise awareness, support, and celebrate Minnesotans with Down syndrome on this
1.18day and in the future.
1.19BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.20enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.21Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Down Syndrome
1.22Association of Minnesota, Gigi's Playhouse, and Jack's Basket.
