1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Eugene F. Tunney of Minneapolis, Minnesota, for receiving
1.3the Eagle Award and the distinguished William T. Hornaday Award.
1.4WHEREAS, the Eagle Award is the highest award given by the Boy Scouts of America;
1.5and
1.6WHEREAS, attaining the rank of Eagle in the Boy Scouts is an important achievement that
1.7is worthy of recognition; and
1.8WHEREAS, Eugene is a member of Boy Scouts of America and has displayed the attributes
1.9of a responsible and serving member; and
1.10WHEREAS, Eugene has demonstrated mastery of all scouting skills and completed a
1.11community service project that earned him not only an Eagle Award at the young age of 14 but
1.12also the rare, distinguished William T. Hornaday Award by expertly building and placing ten
1.13inviting "bee hotels" around Minneapolis; and
1.14WHEREAS, Hornaday Awards are considered the Olympic medals of Boy Scouts awards,
1.15with only 1,200 awarded since 1914, and are bestowed to those who make significant contributions
1.16to environmental conservation and habitat protection such as Eugene's bee hotels that provide
1.17pinecones and flowers on which bees can forage for pollen; and
1.18WHEREAS, Eugene went above and beyond by filming a YouTube video to educate people
1.19on how to construct their own bee hotels, hoping to inspire many more bee hotels needed to
1.20compensate for the ongoing loss of plants that feed and shelter bees; and
1.21NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.22congratulates Eugene F. Tunney of Minneapolis, Minnesota, for his dedication to conservation and
1.23congratulates him for receiving both the Eagle and Hornaday Awards.
1.24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare a
1.25copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the Chair of the
1.26Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Eugene F. Tunney.
