1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing the 10th Annual Community Empowerment Through Black Men Healing
1.3Conference.
1.4WHEREAS, the Community Empowerment Through Black Men Healing Conference was
1.5established in 2009, with a mission to provide an opportunity for meaningful community
engagement;
1.6and
1.7WHEREAS, the event has provided access to national and local educators and community
1.8practitioners to discuss and introduce practical culturally sensitive trauma informed
initiatives
1.9leading to the improved health and wellness of African American men and families;
and
1.10WHEREAS, the overarching goal of the conference is to build stronger, thriving African
1.11American communities resulting in the overall improvement of the health of our society
as a whole;
1.12and
1.13WHEREAS, the event also seeks to examine the black church's responsibility and role in
1.14community healing and examines the role of activism as a strategy to build resilience
and prevent
1.15future trauma; and
1.16WHEREAS, the 10th Annual Community Empowerment Through Black Men Healing
1.17Conference will be held on June 21-22, 2018, at Metropolitan State University-St.
Paul Campus;
1.18and
1.19WHEREAS, this year, the theme of the conference is SANKOFA, which means "go back
1.20to the past and bring forward that which is useful" and they plan to examine the past
ten years of
1.21the conference and how to move toward preventing trauma and a future of healing; and
1.22NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.23recognizes the 10th Annual Community Empowerment Through Black Men Healing Conference
1.24and its mission to provide an opportunity for meaningful community engagement.
2.1BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
2.2enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature
and that of the
2.3Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Samuel
Simmons.
