1.2relating to local government; permitting the city of Melrose to provide by
1.3ordinance for the size, terms, and qualifications for membership on public
1.4utilities commission.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1.
MELROSE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION MEMBERSHIP.
1.7Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 412.341, subdivision 1, the city
1.8of Melrose may by ordinance increase the membership of the city's public utilities
1.9commission to a maximum of seven members. The ordinance may also provide for the
1.10terms of the commission members and the terms must be staggered, provide that residency
1.11within the city is not a qualification for serving on the commission, and permit one or
1.12more members of the city council to serve on the commission.
1.13EFFECTIVE DATE; LOCAL APPROVAL.This section is effective the day after
1.14the governing body of the city of Melrose and its chief clerical officer complete in timely
1.15fashion their compliance with Minnesota Statutes, section 645.021, subdivisions 2 and 3.
