1.2relating to health; modifying the cancer surveillance system;amending
1.3Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 144.671.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 144.671, is amended to read:
1.6144.671 CANCER SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM; PURPOSE.
1.7(a) The commissioner of health shall establish a statewide population-based cancer
1.8surveillance system. The purpose of this system is to:
1.9(1) monitor incidence trends of cancer to detect potential public health problems,
1.10predict risks, and assist in investigating cancer clusters;
1.11(2) more accurately target intervention resources for communities and patients
1.12and their families;
1.13(3) inform health professionals and citizens about risks, early detection, and
1.14treatment of cancers known to be elevated in their communities; and
1.15(4) promote high quality research to provide better information for cancer control
1.16and to address public concerns and questions about cancer.
1.17(b) In addition to the factors monitored under paragraph (a), the commissioner
1.18shall also request:
1.19(1) all previous occupations, dates, and places of work of a cancer patient; and
1.20(2) the time and place of any military service performed by a cancer patient.
