SENATE BILL NO. 968

June 11, 2020, Introduced by Senator LUCIDO and referred to the Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety.

A bill to prohibit the application of pressure on the throat or windpipe of an individual by law enforcement officers.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the "police restraint tactics act".

Sec. 2. As used in this act, "law enforcement officer" means that term as defined in section 2 of the Michigan commission on law enforcement standards act, 1965 PA 203, MCL 28.602.

Sec. 3. A law enforcement officer shall not apply pressure to the throat or windpipe of an individual.
