A bill to amend 1954 PA 116, entitled
"Michigan election law,"
by amending section 51 (MCL 168.51), as amended by 1982 PA 505.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec.
51. A person shall An
individual is not be eligible to
the
office of governor or lieutenant governor unless the person
individual
has attained the age of 30 years and
has been a
registered
and qualified elector in this state for 4 years next
preceding
before his or her election, as provided in section 22 of
article
5 V of the state constitution of 1963. A person An
individual who has been convicted of a violation of section 12a(1)
of
Act No. 370 of the Public Acts of 1941, being section 1941 PA
370,
MCL 38.412a, of
the Michigan Compiled Laws, shall is
not be
eligible to the office of governor or lieutenant governor for a
period of 20 years after the conviction.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect
unless Senate Joint Resolution K ____
of the 99th Legislature becomes a part of
the state constitution of 1963 as provided in section 1 of article
XII of the state constitution of 1963.
