A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

"The revised school code,"

(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1164.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 1164. The board of a school district or board of directors of a public school academy shall ensure that each school it operates complies with both of the following requirements, as applicable:

(a) If instruction concerning precolonial European history is provided to pupils enrolled in the school, grade-appropriate instruction concerning African history and civilization must also be provided to those pupils in an amount proportionate to the precolonial European history instruction being provided.

(b) If instruction concerning the formation of the United States is provided to pupils enrolled in the school, instruction concerning African-American history must be included within the instruction concerning the formation of the United States being provided.
