HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION HH

 

 

March 15, 2018, Introduced by Reps. Dianda, Sabo, Zemke, Marino, Geiss, Elder, Cochran, Gay-Dagnogo, Yanez and Wittenberg and referred to the Committee on Elections and Ethics.

 

     A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the state

 

constitution of 1963, by amending section 10 of article IV, to

 

prohibit a legislator from voting on certain bills.

 

     Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the

 

state of Michigan, That the following amendment to the state

 

constitution of 1963, to prohibit a legislator from voting on

 

certain bills, is proposed, agreed to, and submitted to the people

 

of the state:

 

ARTICLE IV

 

     Sec. 10. (1) No member of the legislature nor any A legislator

 

or a state officer shall not be interested directly or indirectly

 

in any contract with the this state or any political subdivision

 

thereof which of this state that shall cause a substantial conflict


of interest.

 

     (2) A legislator shall not vote on a bill in which the

 

legislator has or the legislator knows or reasonably should know a

 

related person has a direct financial interest.

 

     (3) The legislature shall further implement this provision

 

section by appropriate legislation.

 

     (4) As used in this section, "legislator" means a member of

 

the legislature.

 

     Resolved further, That the foregoing amendment shall be

 

submitted to the people of the state at the next general election

 

in the manner provided by law.
