HOUSE BILL No. 6452

     A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

 

"The revised school code,"

 

(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1232.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 1232. (1) Subject to subsection (2), an individual

 

employed by a school district or public school academy as an

 

athletic coach, assistant athletic coach, or athletic trainer shall

 

complete the SafeSport online training program on sexual misconduct

 

provided by the United States Center for SafeSport or an equivalent

 

training program, as determined by the department.

 

     (2) An individual hired by a school district or public school

 

academy as an athletic coach, assistant athletic coach, or athletic

 

trainer before the effective date of this section shall complete

 


the training program under subsection (1) and provide a certificate

 

of completion to the school district or public school academy

 

within 30 days of the effective date of this section. An individual

 

hired by a school district or public school academy as an athletic

 

coach, assistant athletic coach, or athletic trainer on or after

 

the effective date of this section shall complete the training

 

program under subsection (1) and provide a certificate of

 

completion to the school district or public school academy within 7

 

days of beginning employment as an athletic coach, assistant

 

athletic coach, or athletic trainer for the school district or

 

public school academy.

 

     (3) If an individual employed by a school district or public

 

school academy as an athletic coach, assistant athletic coach, or

 

athletic trainer fails to comply with subsection (2), the school

 

district or public school academy employing the individual shall

 

immediately terminate the individual's employment as an athletic

 

coach, assistant athletic coach, or athletic trainer.

 

     (4) A school district or public school academy shall reimburse

 

an individual employed by the school district or public school

 

academy as an athletic coach, assistant athletic coach, or athletic

 

trainer for the cost of completing a training program under this

 

section.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days

 

after the date it is enacted into law.
