HOUSE BILL No. 6441

 

 

October 4, 2018, Introduced by Rep. Calley and referred to the Committee on Education Reform.

 

     A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

 

"The revised school code,"

 

(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1149.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 1149. (1) A school district shall allow a pupil to enroll

 

in and attend the appropriate grade in a school in which the

 

pupil's sibling is enrolled, regardless of whether the pupil meets

 

the residency requirements to enroll in the school, if both of the

 

following are met:

 

     (a) The pupil is a resident of the school district operating

 

the school.

 

     (b) The pupil's sibling who is enrolled in the school is a

 

child with a disability.

 

     (2) A school district that enrolls a pupil under subsection

 

(1) is not required to provide transportation for the pupil.

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days

 

after the date it is enacted into law.
