A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1166a.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1166a. (1) Beginning in the 2019-2020 school year, the
department shall ensure that the model core academic curriculum
content standards for social studies for grades 9 to 12 include a
program of instruction on the labor movement and labor strikes in
this state.
(2) Subsection (1) does not preclude a school district or
public school academy from including instruction described in
subsection (1) in other subject areas or grade levels.
(3) Not later than January 1, 2019, the department shall
develop or adopt and make available to school districts and public
school academies a model program of instruction on the labor
movement and labor strikes in this state.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
