HOUSE BILL NO. 6272

June 22, 2022, Introduced by Reps. Hope, Breen, Steckloff, Hood, Thanedar, LaGrand, Young, Kuppa, Neeley, Cynthia Johnson, Pohutsky, Rogers, Brenda Carter, Brabec, Stone, Anthony, Weiss, Ellison, Morse, Rabhi and Yancey and referred to the Committee on Military, Veterans and Homeland Security.

A bill to amend 1927 PA 372, entitled

"An act to regulate and license the selling, purchasing, possessing, and carrying of certain firearms, gas ejecting devices, and electro-muscular disruption devices; to prohibit the buying, selling, or carrying of certain firearms, gas ejecting devices, and electro-muscular disruption devices without a license or other authorization; to provide for the forfeiture of firearms and electro-muscular disruption devices under certain circumstances; to provide for penalties and remedies; to provide immunity from civil liability under certain circumstances; to prescribe the powers and duties of certain state and local agencies; to prohibit certain conduct against individuals who apply for or receive a license to carry a concealed pistol; to make appropriations; to prescribe certain conditions for the appropriations; and to repeal all acts and parts of acts inconsistent with this act,"

by amending section 10 (MCL 28.430), as added by 1990 PA 320.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 10. (1) A Except as otherwise provided in subsection (2), a person who owns a firearm shall, within no later than 5 days after he or she knows knew or should have known his or her firearm is was stolen, report the theft to a police agency having jurisdiction over that theft.

(2) A federally licensed firearms dealer shall, no later than 48 hours after the dealer knew or should have known the dealer's firearm was lost or stolen, report the loss or theft to a police agency having jurisdiction over that loss or theft.

(3) (2) A person who fails to report the loss or theft of a firearm as required under subsection (1) or (2) is responsible for a civil violation and may be fined not more than $500.00.

(4) As used in this section, "federally licensed firearms dealer" means a person licensed under 18 USC 923.
