HOUSE BILL NO. 6249

September 22, 2020, Introduced by Reps. Brenda Carter, Greig, Hope, Wittenberg and Rabhi and referred to the Committee on Government Operations.

A bill to amend 1897 PA 8, entitled

"An act to provide permanent recognition in the State Capitol Building for the contributions of Michigan veterans,"

by amending section 1 (MCL 35.231), as amended by 2018 PA 629.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 1. (1) The Michigan State Capitol Commission legislative council shall provide, within the State Capitol Building, recognition for the contributions of veterans to this state.

(2) The Michigan State Capitol Commission legislative council shall display within the State Capitol Building 1 or more suitable plaques commemorating the Grand Army of the Republic and services of Michigan residents in the Armed Forces of the United States of America and the Michigan National Guard.

(3) As used in this section, :

(a) "Michigan State Capitol Commission" means the Michigan State Capitol Commission established in section 5 of the Michigan state capitol historic site act, 2013 PA 240, MCL 4.1945.

(b) "Veteran" "veteran" means that term as defined in section 1 of 1965 PA 190, MCL 35.61.

Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect unless Senate Bill No.____ or House Bill No. 6246 (request no. 06877'20) of the 100th Legislature is enacted into law.
