HOUSE BILL NO. 6168

A bill to require the public disclosure of certain information related to bulk mailings sent by legislators; and to provide for the powers and duties of certain state governmental officers and entities.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 1. This act may be cited as the "legislative bulk mailing disclosure act".

Sec. 3. (1) A legislator shall disclose to the legislature all of the following information for each bulk mailing that is sent in the legislator's official capacity:

(a) The cost of the bulk mailing.

(b) What political party membership information was used, if any, to determine the list of the bulk mailing's recipients.

(c) What voting history information of electors was used, if any, to determine the list of the bulk mailing's recipients.

(d) The zip codes within which the bulk mailing was sent.

(2) The legislature shall post the information disclosed to it under subsection (1) on a publicly available searchable database on the legislature's website.
