HOUSE BILL NO. 6013
A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1531e.
the people of the state of michigan enact:
Sec. 1531e. (1) The department shall create a grant program to provide funding to school districts, intermediate school districts, and public school academies to be used as described in subsection (3).
(2) To receive a grant through the grant program created under subsection (1), a school district, intermediate school district, or public school academy shall apply for the grant in a form and manner prescribed by the department.
(3) The department shall ensure that funding appropriated by the legislature for the grant program created in subsection (1) is utilized by grant recipients only as follows:
(a) Each grant recipient shall, with the grant funds, pay each mentor teacher who works at or for the school district, intermediate school district, or public school academy a stipend of $1,000.00 for the school year in which the grant is received.
(b) Each grant recipient shall, with the grant funds, pay each student teacher who works at or for the school district, intermediate school district, or public school academy $90.00 for each school day of work conducted by the student teacher during the school year in which the grant is received.
(4) The legislature shall appropriate sufficient funding to fund the grant program created in subsection (1).
