A bill to amend 1964 PA 283, entitled
"Weights and measures act,"
by amending section 28a (MCL 290.628a).
the people of the state of michigan enact:
Sec. 28a. (1) Except for immediate consumption on the premises where sold, or as 1 of
several elements comprising a ready-to-eat meal sold as a unit for consumption elsewhere
than on the premises where sold, all meat, meat products, as provided in subsections (3) and (4), all poultry,
whole or parts, and all seafood except shellfish, offered or exposed for sale or and sold , as
food shall must be offered or exposed for sale and

Except as provided in subsections (3) and (4), all meat and meat products,
whole or parts, offered or exposed for sale and sold as food must be offered or
exposed for sale and sold by weight or primal cut. As used in this subsection,
"primal cut" means the wholesale cut into which the carcass of a food
animal is divided, and includes, but is not limited to, chuck, rib, loin,
sirloin, round, shank, brisket, plate, flank, leg, rack, shoulder, foreshank,
side, picnic shoulder, and shoulder buff.

If meat, meat product, poultry, or seafood is combined with or associated with some other another food element or elements to form either a distinctive food
product or a food combination, such that food product or food combination shall must be offered or exposed for sale and

(4)
This section does not apply to meat, meat product, poultry, or seafood that is
offered or exposed for sale and sold under either of the following
circumstances:
(a)
For immediate consumption on the premises where it is offered or exposed for
sale and sold.
(b)
As 1 of several elements comprising a ready-to-eat meal sold as a unit for
consumption on a premises other than the premises where the ready-to-eat meal
is offered or exposed for sale and sold.
