HOUSE BILL NO. 5633

March 12, 2020, Introduced by Reps. Camilleri, Hammoud, Brenda Carter, Manoogian, Garza, Hope, Bolden, Peterson, Tyrone Carter, Hood, Clemente, Stone, Whitsett and Sowerby and referred to the Committee on Health Policy.

A bill to amend 1956 PA 218, entitled

"The insurance code of 1956,"

(MCL 500.100 to 500.8302) by adding section 3406v.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 3406v. (1) An insurer that delivers, issues for delivery, or renews in this state a health insurance policy shall include in the policy coverage for all of the following related to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) or the determination of whether an insured has coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19):

(a) Physician office visits.

(b) Examination, diagnosis, and prescribed treatment by telemedicine.

(c) Hospitalizations.

(d) Drugs as prescribed by a physician.

(e) Vaccines as prescribed by a physician.

(f) Laboratory tests.

(g) Hand sanitizer and face masks.

(h) Quarantine, detention, or isolation by any governmental entity.

(2) The payment of any benefit under the coverage required by subsection (1) must not be subject to any coinsurance, copayment, application to a deductible, or limit.

Enacting section 1. This amendatory act applies to health insurance policies delivered, executed, issued, amended, adjusted, or renewed in this state beginning 90 days after the date this amendatory act is enacted into law.
