AN ACT to amend 1919 PA 339, entitled “An act relating to dogs and the protection of live stock and poultry from damage by dogs; providing for the licensing of dogs; regulating the keeping of dogs, and authorizing their destruction in certain cases; providing for the determination and payment of damages done by dogs to live stock and poultry; imposing powers and duties on certain state, county, city and township officers and employees, and to repeal Act No. 347 of the Public Acts of 1917, and providing penalties for the violation of this act,” by amending section 14a (MCL 287.274a), as added by 2006 PA 551.
The People of the State of Michigan enact:
Sec. 14a. (1) When issuing a dog license under section 14, a county treasurer, city clerk, city treasurer, township treasurer, or the authorized agent of a city or township treasurer, including, but not limited to, a veterinarian, animal control shelter, or animal protection shelter, shall also provide information to the dog owner regarding the availability of microchip implantation and registration for dogs by a veterinarian, animal control shelter, or animal protection shelter.
(2) As used in this section, “animal control shelter” and “animal
protection shelter” mean those terms as defined in section 1 of 1969 PA 287,
MCL 287.331, and are facilities registered with the department of agriculture and
rural development under section 6 of 1969 PA 287, MCL 287.336.
This act is ordered to take immediate effect.
