A bill to amend 1939 PA 280, entitled

"The social welfare act,"

(MCL 400.1 to 400.119b) by adding section 14n.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 14n. (1) An individual is eligible to receive food assistance if all of the following apply:

(a) The individual is a student who attends school at least half time.

(b) The student receives $0.00 family contribution on the free application for federal student aid.

(c) The student meets the food assistance income requirement or the school considers the student eligible for a work study program.

(2) A student is exempt from any work requirement in place for receiving food assistance benefits.

(3) As used in this section, "student" means an individual enrolled in a degree- or certificate-granting public or private college or university, junior college, or community college in this state.
