HOUSE BILL No. 5277

 

 

November 28, 2017, Introduced by Reps. Garrett, Geiss, Love, Cochran, Peterson, Liberati, Ellison, Sneller, Neeley, Moss, Sowerby, Guerra, Phelps, Scott, Byrd, Sabo, Yanez, Chang and Durhal and referred to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

 

     A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled

 

"Michigan vehicle code,"

 

(MCL 257.1 to 257.923) by adding section 602d.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 602d. (1) An individual shall not operate a motor vehicle

 

while a dog is sitting in his or her lap, unless the dog is sitting

 

in his or her lap for a medical purpose under the Americans with

 

disabilities act of 1990, 42 USC 12101 to 12213.

 

     (2) An individual who violates subsection (1) is responsible

 

for a civil infraction and shall be ordered to pay a civil fine as

 

follows:

 

     (a) For a first violation, $100.00.

 

     (b) For a second or subsequent violation, $200.00.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days

 

after the date it is enacted into law.
