HOUSE BILL No. 5064

November 5, 2015, Introduced by Reps. Neeley, Sarah Roberts, Lane, Faris, Love, Phelps, Chang and Derek Miller and referred to the Committee on Tax Policy.

A bill to establish 1 week in October as a week of remembrance

of those whose lives have been lost to domestic violence.

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

Sec. 1. The legislature recognizes that the month of October

has long been declared by national leaders as National Domestic

Violence Awareness Month so that annually we may rededicate

ourselves to the goal of someday living in a nation free of the

suffering and hardship caused by domestic violence. Until that goal

is realized, however, numerous victims of domestic violence

continue to be deprived of not only their health, liberty, and

security, but also their lives.

Sec. 2. The legislature declares that each year the week

beginning on the first Monday of October shall be a week of

remembrance of those whose lives have been lost to domestic

violence and that the flags atop the State Capitol Building shall

be flown at half-staff throughout that week.
