HOUSE BILL No. 4048

 

January 22, 2015, Introduced by Rep. Yonker and referred to the Committee on Local Government.

 

     A bill to amend 1877 PA 164, entitled

 

"An act to authorize cities, incorporated villages, and townships

to establish and maintain, or contract for the use of, free public

libraries and reading rooms; and to prescribe penalties and provide

remedies,"

 

by amending section 4 (MCL 397.204), as amended by 2014 PA 131.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 4. (1) A vacancy in the governing board of a library

 

occasioned caused by removal, resignation, or otherwise, shall must

 

be reported to the city council and filled in the same manner as

 

the original appointment. , and no member shall receive

 

compensation as such.

 

     (2) The governing board of a library may reimburse a board

 

member for necessary expenses that the member incurs in the

 

performance of official duties. The governing board may compensate

 

board members for attending official meetings of the board or

 

committees of the board and shall include the amount of

 

compensation in the annual budget. Compensation must not exceed

 

$30.00 per board member per meeting. The governing board shall not

 

compensate a board member for attending more than 52 meetings per

 

year.
