SENATE RESOLUTION



MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

        A SENATE RESOLUTION urging the legislative council to assign to an interim study committee the topics of volunteer firefighters holding elected office and funding and training for volunteer fire departments.

    Whereas, In order to ensure that all aspects of this issue are fully studied, it behooves the state of Indiana to assign the topics of volunteer firefighters holding elected office and funding and training for volunteer fire departments to a study committee: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. That the legislative council is urged to assign to an interim study committee the topics of volunteer firefighters holding elected office and funding and training for volunteer fire departments.
    SECTION 2. That the committee, if established, shall also determine how many people will be affected by the issue of volunteer firefighters holding elected office.
    SECTION 3. That the committee, if established, shall study the staffing impact that may be felt by volunteer fire departments under IC 3-5-9, which was enacted in the 2012 General Assembly.
    SECTION 4. That the committee, if established, shall examine issues related to funding and training for volunteer fire departments.
    SECTION 5. That the committee, if established, shall operate under the direction of the legislative council and that the committee shall issue such reports as directed by the council.
