SENATE RESOLUTION


     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION congratulating Morry Mannies on his retirement after 56 years of being the voice of Cardinal Sports.

    Whereas, During the past 55 years, Morry Mannies has broadcast over 5,500 Ball State University and high school football and basketball games, logging over 30,000 hours behind the microphone for WLBC/WXFN Radio in Muncie;

    Whereas, Morry is a legend in the broadcasting profession. He began broadcasting Ball State athletics while he was a freshman at the university. He has served as Ball State's play- by-play announcer for both football and men's basketball since 1956;
    
    Whereas, Mr. Mannies is a three-time winner of the Indiana Sportscaster of the Year honor, and has been inducted into the MAC Hall of Fame, the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame, the Indiana Sportswriters Hall of Fame, and the Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame;

    Whereas, Morry has also been the honored recipient of the

Ball State Alumni Association's Beneficence Award in 1985, and their Distinguished Alumni Award in 2005;

    Whereas, As a pupil, Senator Lanane was the privileged beneficiary of Mr. Mannies's speech lessons. The Senator's skillful ability to pontificate can be attributed to his gifted speech teacher, Mr. Mannies; and

    Whereas, Morry Mannies will truly be missed as the voice of the Cardinals. He has been an invaluable member of the Ball State and Muncie communities. Morry has contributed greatly to the Muncie culture, and will be irreplaceable: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate congratulates Morry Mannies for his 56 year career as the Voice of the Cardinals.
    SECTION 2. That the Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Morry Mannies.
