     A SENATE RESOLUTION to memorialize Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer David Spencer Moore, a man of compassion who died doing what he loved to do in life, protecting others. Officer Moore had the qualities to serve with dignity, integrity, and honor.

SENATE RESOLUTION


     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION to memorialize Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer David Spencer Moore, a man of compassion who died doing what he loved to do in life, protecting others. Officer Moore had the qualities to serve with dignity, integrity, and honor.

                                
    Whereas, twenty-nine-year old Officer David Moore joined IMPD in 2004 and was honored as Rookie of the Year;

    Whereas, Officer Moore was a natural police officer, succeeding in his service through work ethic and commitment;

    Whereas, Officer Moore comes from a law enforcement driven family. His mother is Sergeant Jo Ann Moore. His father, retired IPD Lieutenant Spencer Moore, founded Crime Stoppers;

    Whereas, Officer Moore's character was developed by him and the strength of his ancestors, the Moore family, who settled Booneville, Kentucky and the Cord family who farmed the land of Shelby County, Indiana;


    Whereas, Officer Moore's favorite part of his job was patrolling his beat. He enjoyed talking with those he was charged to serve. He enjoyed helping them solve their problems and liked keeping them safe and out of harm's way;

    Whereas, on the 26th day of January, 2011, Officer Moore died in the line of duty;

    Whereas, Officer Moore would not regret his career choice, and served with pride and honor;

    Whereas, Officer Moore continued to serve the public through the organ donation program; and

    Whereas, Officer Moore is survived by his mother and father, Jo Ann and Spencer Lee Moore; his beloved sister, Carol Bongfeldt and her husband Brian. His nephew, Samuel Zike and his niece Cora Zike. His uncle Juan Moore and cousin John Moore. His aunt Kay and uncle Calvin Carpenter, cousins Jason and Heather Carpenter and their children, Kaylee and Zachary. His aunt Mary and uncle Ron Gates, cousins Michael Gates, Stephanie Gates. His uncle George Cord whose wife Sue passed away last fall.

    

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


     SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly memorializes Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer David Moore.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Jo Ann Moore, Spencer Lee Moore, Carol Bongfeldt, IMPD Chief Paul Ciesielski, and the IMPD North District.
