SENATE RESOLUTION


     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION to honor Warren Elihu Jones for his service to the community and school system of Michigan City.
        

    Whereas, Warren Jones served honorably with the United States Navy in heavy combat in the Pacific Theater during World War 2;

    Whereas, from 1949-1955 Warren Jones taught Geography at Elston Jr./Sr. High School and served as Baseball and Basketball coach;

    Whereas, from 1955-1959 Warren Jones served as Assistant Principal at Elston High School;

    Whereas, from 1959-1962 Warren Jones served as Counselor at Elston Jr. High;

    Whereas, from 1962-1963 Warren Jones served as Principal of Barker Jr. High;

    Whereas, from 1963-1977 Warren Jones served as

Principal of Elston High School;

    Whereas, from 1977-1982 Warren Jones served as Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent and retired in 1982;

    Whereas, Warren Jones served for forty-seven years with the Michigan City Lions Club as both Treasurer and President;

    Whereas, Warren Jones served for eight years on the Long Beach town board;

    Whereas, Warren Jones served as a Sunday school teacher for twenty-five years and as an Elder of the church at First Christian and Countryside Christian for forty years; and

    Whereas, Warren Jones was honored for his "spirit, optimism, and for his humanity" by having a portion of the Heritage Hall in the Michigan City High School named after him, called the Warren E. Jones Spirit Center or Michigan City's Chief Cheerleader; therefore

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly wishes to congratulate Warren Elihu Jones for his service to the community of Michigan City.
    SECTION 2. That copies of the resolution be transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to Warren Elihu Jones.
