SENATE RESOLUTION


     MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION encouraging the continued use of vaccines in children, adolescents, and adults to ensure the safety and health of Hoosiers.

    Whereas, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continue to report vaccination as one of the best ways to eliminate the serious effects of preventable diseases;

    Whereas, The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, in their 2010 National Immunization Survey, found an increase in the administration of vaccines for various diseases including; measles, mumps, rubella, rotavirus, pneumococcal disease, hepatitis A, and haemophilus influenza type B;

    Whereas, National Immunization Survey results indicated that the vaccines boast successful defense rates against polio virus, chickenpox, and the entire hepatitis B series, all of which have remained stable at 90% or higher;

    Whereas, The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, as operated by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, reports that adolescents between 13 and 17 years of age routinely receive immunizations for menigococcal

conjugate, tetanus, diphtheria, and acellular pertussis;

    Whereas, Vaccinating children and school age adolescents improves the health of the community by reducing serious communicable disease risks throughout the state of Indiana by minimizing or eliminating outbreaks;
    
    Whereas, The Women in Government Foundation, Inc. is a national non-profit, non-partisan organization of female state legislators that provides leadership opportunities, networking expert forums, and educational resources to address and resolve complex public policy issues. Women in Government Foundation, Inc. has made it a major policy initiative to emphasize the importance of lifetime vaccinations, in order to save lives and encourage a healthier population; and

    Whereas, The continued use of vaccinations for children, adolescents, and adults will ensure the safety and health of Indiana residents: Therefore,


Be it resolved by the Senate of the
General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
        
    SECTION 1. That the Indiana Senate encourages the continued use of vaccines for the citizens of Indiana.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Women in Government Foundation, Inc.
