SENATE RESOLUTION

MADAM PRESIDENT:

    I offer the following resolution and move its adoption:

    A SENATE RESOLUTION urging the legislative council to establish an interim study committee to study Common Core Standards.

    Whereas, Common Core Standards are an attempt to ensure that all students are college and career ready in literacy no later than by the end of high school;

    Whereas, However, not everyone is convinced that these Common Core Standards are in the best interests of Indiana's students;

    Whereas, Further study is required before adopting the Common Core Standards for Indiana schools; and

    Whereas, The committee, if established, should examine how these Common Core Standards relate to the standards currently in use in Indiana's schools: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. That the legislative council is urged to establish an interim study committee to study the value of adopting Common Core Standards.
    SECTION 2. That the committee, if established, shall operate under the direction of the legislative council, and that the committee shall issue a final report when directed to do so by the council.
