A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Penn High
School Spell Bowl squad on winning the state title.

RESOLUTION No. _____
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Penn High
School Spell Bowl squad on winning the state title.
Whereas, Penn High School's Spell Bowl squad won their
11th state title in 12 years at the Indiana Academic Spell
Bowl;
Whereas, Coach Pete DeKever and his squad exemplified
hard work and dedication throughout the season, writing
approximately 40,000 words in preparation for the
competitions, which helped them win seven individual meets
during the season;
Whereas, That hard work carried through into the
practice sessions that Penn High School held in preparation
for the Indiana Academic Spell Bowl, where they focused on
writing the 3,500 words from the word list. This proved
successful as they earned a perfect score of 90, which won
them the state title and also secured the top overall honors in
Class 1;
Whereas, The perfect score that Penn High School posted
at the Indiana Academic Spell Bowl was their 26th in school
history. Their performance was historic in that there have
only been 35 to 40 perfect scores ever posted at the Indiana
Academic Spell Bowl;
Whereas, The team members of the Penn High School Spell Bowl squad are: Maddy Anderson, Maaz Arif, Nitin Arora, Nisha Bhatt, Alex Cao, Christy Chang, Laura Harmon, Austin Heckaman, Leah Hershberger, Yifei Hu, Jenny Huang, Richard Jung, Neena Kallookulangara, Marija Lapkus, James McGinness, Sheena Shah, Nithin Varadharajan, and Andy Wang; and
Whereas, The Penn High School Spell Bowl squad's state
title is an impressive accomplishment worthy of recognition:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly congratulates the
Penn High School Spell Bowl squad on winning the state title.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to Coach Pete DeKever; Steve Hope,
Principal of Penn High School; and Dr. Jerry Thacker, Superintendent
of the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation.
