A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION urging Community
Organizations International (COI) to maintain the integrity of the
United States' electoral process.
Whereas, Community Organizations International (COI)
is an organization that advocates for low- and moderate-
income families. One of its most well publicized efforts is
registering voters;
Whereas, COI has a longstanding history of voter fraud
in its voter registration process going back to 1986, when 12
COI members were convicted of voter fraud;
Whereas, In 2004, six COI volunteers pleaded guilty to
election law violations after they filled out voter registration
cards with the information of persons later determined to be
deceased;
Whereas, COI workers have been convicted of voter
registration crimes in Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota,
Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Washington;
Whereas, In Lake County, Indiana, over 2,000 voter
registration forms filled out by COI employees were later
determined to be erroneous;
Whereas, Errors in the voter registration process may
lead to errors at the polling sites
; and
Whereas, The electoral process is the basis upon which
we maintain our democratic way of life.
It is important to
ensure that our electoral process retains the highest level of
integrity: Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly urges Community
Organizations International (COI) to maintain the integrity of the
electoral process.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit a copy of this Resolution to Community Organizations
International (COI) and the members of the Indiana congressional
delegation.
