SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION No. _____

    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Indianapolis Bishop Chatard football team on winning the 3A state championship.

     Whereas, The Indianapolis Bishop Chatard football team used a powerful running game, led by Ryan Kleinschmidt, to a 28-14 victory over South Bend St. Joseph's in the Class 3A state championship game;

    Whereas, With the victory, Bishop Chatard became the first school to win 10 Indiana football championships, an unprecedented accomplishment in the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) record book;

    Whereas, Four turnovers were crucial in Bishop Chatard's victory. The first turnover by South Bend came in the first quarter, when the shotgun snap went over quarterback Max Matthews' head, and linebacker Nolan Miller picked up the ball and ran 60 yards for a touchdown, giving Bishop Chatard a 14-0 lead. The three other forced turnovers were by interception;

    Whereas, Bishop Chatard running back Ryan Kleinschmidt tied a 3A state championship record with 247 yards rushing. He got those yards on 41 carries, which was significant because that mark set a new 3A game record for attempts. He also had two touchdowns on the day;

    Whereas, The passing game of Bishop Chatard, led by quarterback Stephen DeSchryver, was instrumental in putting the game away in the 4th quarter. DeSchryver completed three of four passes for 70 yards and a touchdown that gave Bishop Chatard a 14 point lead with 6:28 left in the 4th quarter. DeSchryver finished the day 9 of 13 for 115 yards in the game;

    Whereas, After the game, Bishop Chatard's Joseph Fehribach was selected by the IHSAA Executive Committee as the winner of the Phil N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award in 3A football. The award is presented annually to a senior in each classification who best demonstrates excellence in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability. Fehribach serves as student council president, is class president for the third consecutive year, is a member of the retreat team and the National Honor Society;

    Whereas, Head Coach Vince Lorenzano, who made his seventh state finals appearance, has led Bishop Chatard to their last four state championships. Bishop Chatard finished the season with 10 straight wins after a 1-4 start and outscored its six postseason opponents by a 230-59 margin; and

    Whereas, The Indianapolis Bishop Chatard football team's unprecedented 10th state championship is an incredible accomplishment and worthy of enormous praise: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:

    SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate congratulates the Indianapolis Bishop Chatard football team on winning the 3A state championship.
