Synopsis: Proof of insurance for vehicle registration. Specifies that
proof of financial responsibility for a motor vehicle being registered in
Indiana for the first time must be in the form of an original insurance
policy.

A BILL FOR AN ACT to amend the Indiana Code concerning
motor vehicles.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

SECTION 1. IC 9-18-2-11 IS AMENDED TO READ AS
FOLLOWS [EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2011]: Sec. 11.
(a) A motor vehicle
may be registered in Indiana only if proof of financial responsibility in
the amounts specified in IC 9-25 is produced for inspection at the time
an application for registration is made in a form required by the bureau.
(b) The proof of financial responsibility required by subsection
(a) for a motor vehicle being registered in Indiana for the first time
must be in the form of an original motor vehicle insurance policy
that meets the requirements of IC 9-25-4-5.
