A HOUSE RESOLUTION memorializing Army Staff
Sergeant David Nowaczyk.
Whereas, United States Army Staff Sergeant David
Nowaczyk died April 15, 2012, in Chingai, Kunar province,
Afghanistan;
Whereas, Six weeks after Staff Sergeant David Nowaczyk
began his third tour of duty in Afghanistan, he was killed after
the vehicle in which he was riding struck an improvised
explosive device;
Whereas, A decorated war hero, Staff Sergeant David Nowaczyk earned a National Defense Service Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, an Army Service
Ribbon, two Army Commendation Medals, two Bronze Stars,
and a Purple Heart, awarded posthumously;
Whereas, The 32-year-old Dyer native was assigned to the
2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat
Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado;
Whereas, Staff Sergeant David Nowaczyk graduated in
1997 from Lake Central High School, where he was a member
of the wrestling and football teams;
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Nowaczyk enlisted in the Army in
September 2005;
Whereas, Staff Sergeant Nowaczyk is remembered as a
dedicated warrior and a true American hero who loved his
family and his friends above all; and
Whereas, Throughout history, brave individuals like Staff
Sergeant David Nowaczyk have made the ultimate sacrifice in
defense of freedom throughout the world; without individuals
like Staff Sergeant Nowaczyk, freedom could not survive:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives pays tribute to an outstanding American who gave his life in defense of freedom. Staff Sergeant David Nowaczyk was killed on the front lines fighting to preserve freedom. United States Army Staff Sergeant Nowaczyk died doing what he believed in. The members of the House of Representatives extend their deepest sympathy to his family.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to his wife, Rachel; daughter, Kiley; stepson, Conner; his mother, Patti; his father, Andrew; and his sister, Megan.
