A HOUSE RESOLUTION recognizing the courage and
perseverance of Mindy Owen.
Whereas, In 2009, when she was a freshman at IUPUI,
Mindy Owen was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma;
Whereas, Many people would have simply given up, but
Mindy was not one of those people;
Whereas, Mindy, who faces her diagnosis with courage and
dignity, always maintaining a positive outlook on life, is
determined to finish her education;
Whereas, Mindy continually displays her amazing strength of character and bravery;
Whereas, A music student, Mindy has performed a recital with a fractured rib and shoulder due to the disease and was sidelined from school when she developed a tumor in her spine;
Whereas, Mindy has taken extra credit hours while taking
oral chemotherapy daily to ensure that she will graduate on
time;
Whereas, Upon graduation, Mindy hopes to teach music to
children;
Whereas, Mindy is an example to others of graceful
perseverance in times of great difficulty; and
Whereas, It is fitting that special recognition be given
Mindy Owen for her courage and bravery in the face of her
diagnosis and her tenacity in accomplishing her goal:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives recognizes the unwavering courage and undiminished spirit of this Hoosier hero and urges her to keep chasing her dreams.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Mindy Owen.
