A HOUSE RESOLUTION recognizing the Canada -
United States Trade and Investment Relationship.
Whereas, Canada and Indiana enjoy a strong economic
relationship;
Whereas, 162,286 Indiana jobs depend on trade with
Canada, and 91 Canadian-owned businesses employ 11,951
people at 428 Indiana locations;
Whereas, 53 Indiana businesses have 97 operations in
Canada and employ 10,312 people in Indiana;
Whereas, In 2010 bilateral trade between Canada and Indiana totaled $17 billion, and Indiana exports to Canada
amounted to $10.39 billion;
Whereas, Canadian investments in Indiana were $388.11
million;
Whereas, In 2010 Indiana imported over $554.17 million
in crude and $58.25 million in refined petroleum products from
Canada;
Whereas, 92 automotive companies and plants export to
Canada and employ 31,078 people in Indiana;
Whereas, Canadians made more than 213,200 visits to
Indiana during 2010, spending more than $102 million in our
state, and 84,850 air passengers travel between Canada and
Indiana each year;
Whereas, Hoosiers and Canadians share a strong common
ancestry, with 13,686 Hoosiers being born in Canada or having
Canadian ancestry; and
Whereas, Canada and Indiana share a deep commitment to
create a world of peace and security through maintaining
bilateral trade and investment relationships: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives wishes to recognize the benefits for both the United States and Indiana resulting from the Canada - United States Trade and Investment Relationship.
