A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring the Signature
School.
Whereas, The Signature School, located in Evansville, has
been ranked by The Best Schools (TBS) as the 7th best high
school in the nation;
Whereas, The first step in TBS's ranking process is to
determine whether each school's students perform in the top
academic echelons for a given United States high school
cohort;
Whereas, ACT scores, SAT scores, average weighted GPA, and the API (Academic Performance Index) are used as a
baseline for the educational environment within a high school;
Whereas, The second criterion to evaluate schools is the
degree to which they prepare each student to enter and excel at
college;
Whereas, The third consideration for the ranking process
consists of intangibles, such as innovative degree programs in
the arts, diversity of the student body, current student
satisfaction with the high school, quality and experience of the
faculty, and modern lab or athletic facilities;
Whereas, The Signature School became Indiana's first
charter high school in 2002 and was chartered through the
Signature Learning Center, which became the Signature School
Foundation, Inc.;
Whereas, The school offers its students three major
academic paths: math and science, fine and performing arts, or
liberal arts/humanities;
Whereas, In addition to its attention to academics, the
Signature School also focuses on the arts and is well known for
its many contributions to area musicals and shows by the
Signature Singers; and
Whereas, The Signature School prides itself on offering
challenging courses for the "self-motivated learner": Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives congratulates the Signature School on its ranking as the 7th best high school in the nation and wishes the school continued success in all future endeavors.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to Jean Hitchcock, Executive Director/Principal of the Signature School.
