A HOUSE RESOLUTION urging the legislative council
to assign to an interim study committee the topic of abandoned
or vacant property.
Whereas, Many cities, towns, and counties in Indiana are
faced with urban blight as a consequence of undeveloped,
underdeveloped, and poorly maintained property;
Whereas, Many of the owners of these properties are
absentee landowners who have no interest in development of
the property they own or in the development of the community
where the property is located;
Whereas, The foreclosure crisis has caused significant damage to families and neighborhoods across the country;
Whereas, Indiana has numerous properties that are vacant and otherwise undeveloped that become ideal locations for criminal activity; and
Whereas, The reuse of land is critical to the economic
growth and recovery of a diverse range of urban areas:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the legislative council is urged to assign to an interim study committee the topic of abandoned or vacant properties and all issues relating to these properties.
SECTION 2. That the committee, if established, shall operate under the direction of the legislative council and that the committee shall issue such reports as directed by the council.
