A HOUSE RESOLUTION urging the legislative council
to establish an interim study committee to study the practice of
organ procurement by the Indiana Organ Procurement
Organization (IOPO) from individuals declared cardiac dead
(DCD).
Whereas, Organ donation offers families hope and comfort
at a time when all hope seems to be gone;
Whereas, Declared Cardiac Dead (DCD) organ donation
has been an end-of-life option for patients and their families for
many years; and
Whereas, However, the procedures involved in procuring DCD organs should be studied more thoroughly: Therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the
General Assembly of the State of Indiana:
SECTION 1. That the legislative council is urged to establish an interim study committee to study the practice of organ procurement by the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization (IOPO) from individuals declared cardiac dead (DCD).
SECTION 2. That the committee, if established, shall operate under the direction of the legislative council, and that the committee shall issue a final report when directed to do so by the council.
