A HOUSE RESOLUTION honoring Representative
Richard McClain.
Whereas, Representative Richard McClain, who was first
elected to represent the citizens of House District 24 in 1994,
will be leaving the House chamber for the last time at the end
of the 2012 legislative session;
Whereas, During his time in the House of Representatives,
Representative McClain has served on the Financial
Institutions Committee, the Roads and Transportation
Committee, the Ways and Means Committee, the Veterans and
Public Safety Committee, and the Select Committee on
Government Reduction;
Whereas, While serving in the Indiana House of Representatives, Representative McClain helped to encourage innovative initiatives and spur economic development in his district, helped pass legislation to create the Logansport Ivy Tech location, was instrumental in funding Indiana's more than $1.8 billion transportation deficit to make the Hoosier Heartland Corridor a reality, and assisted with the development of numerous ethanol and biodiesel production plants;
Whereas, Before being elected to the House of
Representatives, Representative McClain was a business
owner, owning the first combined gas station and convenience
store in the Indianapolis area and a hotel in Logansport;
Whereas, Representative McClain also served as the
Jefferson Township Trustee and the Logansport City Engineer;
Whereas, Representative McClain served his country as a
member of the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam
War;
Whereas, Active in his community, Representative McClain
has been involved with the Logansport/Cass County Chamber
of Commerce, Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department, Rotary,
Jaycees, Red Cross, United Way, Farm Bureau, Junior
Achievement Program for Students, American Legion, and the
Mental Health Association and was an assistant Boy Scout
Scoutmaster;
Whereas, Representative McClain also serves as an elder
and teacher at the Lucerne Christian Church;
Whereas, Representative McClain is a graduate of Purdue
University with a bachelor of science degree in industrial
supervision; and
Whereas, Representative Richard McClain has served his
constituency loyally and faithfully since his election to the
Indiana General Assembly: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives bids a fond farewell to Representative Richard McClain. The House of Representatives has seen only good things during his tenure. Legislators and staff alike will miss him greatly. His departure will leave a void that will never be truly filled.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to Representative Richard McClain and his family.
