    A HOUSE RESOLUTION to honor Jerry Southwood, inductee into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in the Class of 2011.

    
    Whereas, Jerry Southwood is a member of the Evansville Bosse High School class of 1963; and,

    Whereas, as a junior, he led the Bosse Bulldogs to their state championship title of 1962, and went on to play a starring role at Vanderbilt University under legendary coach Roy Skinner; and,

    Whereas, on the road to Bosse's '62 title, Mr. Southwood led the Bulldogs to sectional victories over North Posey High School, 92-68, with 10 points on February 21st; over Reitz High School, 68-57, with 15 points on February 23rd; over Rex Mundi High School, 57-54, with 6 points on February 24th; and over North High School, 88-71, with 20 points on February 24th; and



    Whereas, following their sectional victories, Mr. Southwood led the Bulldogs to regional wins over Fort Branch High School, 76-61, with 21 points on March 3rd, and over Castle High School, 84-53, with 8 points on March 3rd; and,

    Whereas, the Bulldogs moved on to the semi-state round, where Mr. Southwood led them to victories over Jasper High School, 70-68, with 17 points on March 10th, and over Seymour High School, 77-57, on March 10th; and,

    Whereas, in the final round, the Bulldogs defeated Madison High School, 79-74 on March 17th on the back of Mr. Southwood's 12 points, before moving on to their championship win over East Chicago Washington High School, 84-81, on March 17th, with Mr. Southwood scoring 18 points; and,

    Whereas, in the 1961-1962 regular season, Mr. Southwood averaged 10.6 points per game, and 15.5 in the post-season, for which he was awarded All-Sectional, All-Regional, All-Semi- State and All-State honors; and,

    Whereas, his outstanding achievements and contributions to the legacy of Indiana high school basketball have now been recognized by the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, which will induct him as a member of the class of 2011 on March 23 of this year: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives officially recognizes Jerry Southwood's achievements in the sport of basketball, congratulates him on the occasion of his induction into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, and commends him for contributing to the proud and cherished legacy of excellence in Indiana basketball.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House transmit a copy of this Resolution to Jerry Southwood, and to Benjamin Bosse High School in Evansville.
