HOUSE

RESOLUTION No. ___

Introduced by: Burton

____________________________________

        A RESOLUTION urging that the citizens of Indiana be protected from federal health care mandates by allowing the state to opt out of such health care plans.

    Whereas, There is a great need to make medical care and health insurance affordable and accessible for more people;

    Whereas, New federal mandates, however, may not reduce costs or increase competition and may destroy the rights of individuals to make their own health care choices;

    Whereas, Several states have publicly announced their intention to take steps to protect their citizens from federal health care mandates; and

    Whereas, Historically, states have maintained the ability to regulate their own health insurance programs: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives wishes to protect the right of its citizens to make their own health care choices by providing the state with an option to opt out of federal health care mandates.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the members of the Indiana Congressional delegation.
