        A HOUSE RESOLUTION congratulating the Loogootee High School boys basketball team.
    

    Whereas, Loogootee High School in Loogootee, Indiana became the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Class 1A Boys' Basketball State Champions on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Banker's Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis by defeating Rockville High School, 55 - 52;

    Whereas, The Loogootee Lions, with a high school enrollment of 284, enjoyed their best postseason run in school history, finishing with a 22 - 4 record after claiming the school's 29th Sectional title, 10th Regional title, 4th Semi-State title, and first-ever State Championship title;


    Whereas, The IHSAA State Championship was the first state title in any sport for Loogootee High School;

    Whereas, Seventh-ranked Loogootee reached the state championship by defeating its arch-rival and number-one ranked Barr-Reeve, 53 - 36, in the sectional semi-finals, defeating the tenth-ranked Orleans Bulldogs, 58 - 45, in the regional final, stopping number-two ranked Edinburgh, 61-50, at the semi-state and, toppling the sixth-rated Rockville High School to take home the state championship trophy;

    Whereas, Bryant Ackerman, the first Loogootee Lion in school history to lead his team in the four statistical categories of points, rebounds, assists, and steals per game, poured in 15 points with a game high 12 rebounds and six assists;

    Whereas, Bryant Ackerman also broke the 1,000 career points plateau in the semi-state win versus Edinburgh and is now a freshman starting guard for Elmhurst College in Illinois;

    Whereas, In addition to Ackerman, Loogootee placed two other players in double figures, junior Conner Wittmer with 16 points and sophomore Matt Mathies with 13 points;

    Whereas, Head Coach Mike Wagoner, who was a sophomore on the 1975 single-class Loogootee boys' state runner-up squad, led his alma mater to the title and credits the team's success to determination, pride in the program, and Ackerman's leadership ability; and

    Whereas, Excellence such as this deserves special recognition: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the

General Assembly of the State of Indiana:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes the accomplishment of the Loogootee Lions, congratulates the team on its championship season, and encourages team members to continue to strive for excellence both on and off the basketball court throughout their lives.
    SECTION 2. That the principal clerk of the House of Representatives transmits a copy of this resolution to team members
