Citations Affected: Article 4 of the Indiana Constitution.
Synopsis: Legislative term limits. Provides that an individual may not
serve more than 24 years as a member of the general assembly.
Provides that the time that an individual has served in the general
assembly before January 1, 2011, may not be considered for purposes
of this limitation. This proposed amendment has not been previously
agreed to by a general assembly.
Effective: This proposed amendment must be agreed to by two
consecutive general assemblies and ratified by a majority of the state's
voters voting on the question to be effective.

Procedures.

A JOINT RESOLUTION proposing an amendment to Article 4 of
the Indiana Constitution concerning the general assembly.
(1) a Senator shall be elected for

(1) the number of years an individual serves as a Senator; and
(2) the number of years an individual serves as a
Representative;
may not be greater than twenty-four years. The number of years
that an individual has served as a Senator or as a Representative
before January 1, 2011, may not be considered in determining
whether the limitation of this subsection applies to the individual.
