RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.

    Whereas, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 13, 1913, by 22 women at Howard University in Washington, D.C.;

    Whereas, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., participated in the 1913 Women's Suffrage march in Washington, D.C.;

    Whereas, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., has over 200,000 members and over 900 chapters in the United States, England, Japan, Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the Republic of Korea;

    Whereas, Prominent members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., include Shirley Chisholm, Ruby Dee Davis, Myrlie Evers-Williams, Dorothy I. Height, Alexis Herman, Darlene Clark Hine, Barbara Jordan, Carrie P. Meek, Mary Church Terrell, and Stephanie Tubbs-Jones;

    Whereas, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., focuses on five principles: economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement;

    Whereas, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., provides assistance and support through established programs in communities around the world; and


    Whereas, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., will hold centennial events around the country throughout 2013 to celebrate the sorority's 100th anniversary, highlighting the services and programs that the sorority provides on a regular basis: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes the 100th anniversary of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Cynthia Butler-McIntyre, national president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the Indianapolis chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
