HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION No.
________

    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Sinai Temple of Michigan City on their 100th anniversary.

     Whereas, The Sinai Congregation is vital to the diversity and spiritual well being of Northwest Indiana;

    Whereas, Sinai Congregation formed under the leadership of Moses Moritz, Fred Stern, Albert K. Hoodwin, Louis Bresken, Samuel Nathanson, and others in 1913;

    Whereas, The formation of this permanent congregation, which first met to worship in a rented hall in 1904, and in various temporary locations after that, created a stable cultural center and religious home for the Reform Jewish community of Northwest Indiana;

    Whereas, Sinai Congregation successfully weathered periods of turmoil in American History, including two World Wars and the Great Depression;

    Whereas, The Congregation outgrew its place of worship a number of times in its early years, requiring the Congregation to build and dedicate a new permeant Temple, the Sinai Temple, in Michigan City in 1953; and

    Whereas, Despite long odds and serious challenges, the Sinai Congregation continues to grow and its Temple continues to stand as a cultural and religious cornerstone in the Northwest Indiana community one hundred years after its founding: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly honors the Sinai Congregation on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the Indiana House of Representatives transmit copies of this resolution to the Sinai Congregation.
