RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Jacob Anderson, Maya Aufdermauer, Cassie McDonald, Peyton Rhodes and Susan Baute.

    Whereas, Jacob Anderson, Maya Aufdermauer, Cassie McDonald, and Peyton Rhodes, students from L. Frances Smith Elementary School in Columbus, offered a suggestion to help reduce energy costs in the Statehouse;

    Whereas, The students suggestion that the nearly 2,500 incandescent chandelier light bulbs be replaced with energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs);

    Whereas, Jacob, Maya, Cassie, and Peyton noticed the use of the inefficient incandescent light bulbs during a tour of the Statehouse in the spring of 2009;

    Whereas, In January, 2010, the Indiana Department of Administration changed the 2,440 incandescent light bulbs in the chandeliers and fixtures in the public areas on all floors of the Statehouse to the compact fluorescent bulbs;

    Whereas, The Indiana Department of Administration reports that the switch to compact fluorescent bulbs has resulted in a savings of approximately $5,000 per month;

    Whereas, The future of our state and our nation rests in the hands of our young people, and these exceptional young people have made a difference in these hard economic times, and



    Whereas, There is a need in Indiana to reduce energy consumption and encourage energy efficiency and conservation, and these students and their teacher, Susan Baute, are playing a large part in saving our state energy and money: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly acknowledges the suggestion of Jacob Anderson, Maya Aufdermauer, Cassie McDonald, and Peyton Rhodes to reduce energy consumption in the Statehouse through the use of CFLs, and the encouragement of their teacher, Susan Baute, in urging the students to make this suggestion and in making it a learning experience for the entire class.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Jacob Anderson, Maya Aufdermauer, Cassie McDonald, and Peyton Rhodes, their teacher, Susan Baute, and the principal of L. Frances Smith Elementary School.
