RESOLUTION



        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing Indiana Artisan.

    Whereas, Indiana Artisan was created in 2008 through a partnership of the Indiana Office of Tourism Development, the Indiana Arts Commission, the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs;

    Whereas, Indiana Artisan, Inc. is the entity established in 2009 and further developed in 2010 to move forward the goals set forth in conjunction with the four founding state agencies and other organizations;

    Whereas, Indiana Artisan is recognized as Indiana's premier program to showcase Hoosier artisans and their high quality, handmade works of art, craft, food, and drink;

    Whereas, The focus of Indiana Artisan is to "grow the economy, especially in rural Indiana, through increased artisan activity and capacity and through related tourism development";

    Whereas, A goal of Indiana Artisan is to "support Hoosier entrepreneurs and small, home-grown businesses by establishing or providing better access to training and networking opportunities and by connecting artisans with consumers, retailers, and/or wholesalers to generate new or increased sales" and to "create a widely recognized brand promoting select works of art, craft, food, and drink and the artisans who produce them while showcasing Indiana's

commitment to high quality, locally-crafted products";

    Whereas, Indiana Artisan was developed to "encourage visitation to Indiana to help increase tourism's positive economic impact by developing new or augmenting existing artisan experiences statewide";

    Whereas, Indiana Artisan recognizes Hoosiers for careful attention to detail, knowledge of a craft, and an entrepreneurial spirit whose extraordinary talent contributes to Indiana's reputation for quality work;

    Whereas, Indiana Artisan brings together the state's talented artisans and their one-of-a-kind art and food creations in a collaborative way;

    Whereas, Participation is through an adjudication process focused on design/quality, technique, originality, or authenticity exhibiting the tradition or heritage of Indiana communities and marketability;

    Whereas, Art, craft, food, and drink are part of the fabric that connects Hoosiers; and

    Whereas, Indiana Artisan attempts to bring this art, craft, food, and drink to the forefront, recognizing and increasing its value to Indiana's economy and impact on Hoosiers: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:


    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes the Indiana Office of Tourism Development, the Indiana Arts Commission, the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs in their effort, through the Indiana Artisan program, to develop and promote select works of Indiana art, craft, food, and drink.
    SECTION 2. That the Indiana General Assembly recognizes the Indiana Artisan as the state's official program to identify, support, and promote high quality, handmade items from Indiana through an official

review process that judges both artistic and business quality under the highest standards.
    SECTION 3. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the Indiana Office of Tourism Development, the Indiana Arts Commission, the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, and Indiana Artisan, Inc.
