A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing Washington High
School as the 2009-2010 Class 3A boys basketball state champions.
Whereas, In an unforgettable overtime battle, the
Washington High School Hatchets, Washington, Indiana,
won their third state title in six years with a 65-62 victory
over Gary Wallace, bringing to six the total number of state
championships the Hatchets have won;
Whereas, During regulation, the game had 10 ties and
eight lead changes;
Whereas, The Hatchets scored the first five points in
overtime, and an added fast-break bucket brought the score
to 63-56, a lead Washington never relinquished;
Whereas, Junior Cody Zeller, the first junior to average 20
points per game in the history of Washington High School,
tied a state finals record with 26 rebounds;
Whereas, Washington hit 32-of-45 from the line, breaking
records for free throws made and attempted for all classes;
Whereas, Ethan Hunsinger, who maintains a 3.49 GPA,
ranks 32nd in his senior class of 150 students, and plans to
attend Indiana University, was named the recipient of the
prestigious Indiana 3A Trester Mental Attitude Award;
Whereas, The Washington Hatchets finished the 2009-2010 season with a 23-3 record; and
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly congratulates the
Washington High School boys basketball team on its 2009-2010 Class
3A state basketball championship and wishes the team members
success in all their future endeavors.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to all team members,
team managers, head coach Gene Miller, principal Paul White, and
superintendent Dr. Bruce Hatton.
